Frequently Asked Questions

Is Sheepscot Valley Community Church affiliated with any denomination?
Yes. We are a Southern Baptist congregation. For more information on the Southern Baptist Convention please visit www.sbc.net
What do I need to wear to come to SVCC?
Dress comfortably. Most people wear casual and comfortable clothes to worship. We believe that God is more concerned with your heart than your clothes.
What about my children?
Quality preschool and children's programs are available in a safe and secure environment. We take the safety and security of your children very seriously. We offer age appropriate classes during our worship services at SVCC. These classes even include dancing, craft making, singing, etc.
Are there any group meetings or activities?
Yes, we have several that you can stop by and have fun in. To see the list of groups we have, see our SVCC Small Groups page.
What does SVCC do for the community?
SVCC holds many events that we encourage the community to attend. See our Events page for a current list.
What is our denominational affiliation?
When SVCC began, four groups gave our church financial support to help start, with which we remain in partnership. These affiliations are as follows:
  • The Maine Baptist Association (MEBA)
  • The Baptist Convention of New England (BCNE)
  • The Southern Baptist Convention (SBC)
  • and The Maine Church Planting Network (MCPN)
Why not just be an independent church?
We are, in essence,an independent church! Every SBC church is completely autonomous. We are not subject to the hierarchical control of any ecclesiastical or denominational body. Each church is self-governed and determines its own affairs. For example:
  • Every SBC church chooses its own pastor.
  • Every SBC church owns its own buildings and assets.
  • Every SBC church determines its own programs and polity.
What are the advantages of affiliating with the SBC?
Affiliation with the SBC allows our church to participate in the largest missionary organization in the world. Through the SBC “Cooperative Program” we help support over 7,500 missionaries in 104 countries around the world.
