Meet The Pastor

Dancer Family

Before you read about me, I first want to thank you for taking the time to visit our site here at Sheepscot Valley Community Church. Hopefully you have or will find what you are looking for. If not I want you to feel completely comfortable with contacting me. I also want to thank you for, again, taking the time to read about me and how I became a Pastor here at SVCC.

There is a town in Maine called Whitefield, this is where I grew up. During kindergarten through 8th grade I attended Whitefield School and graduated high school from Erskine Academy. I can't remember a time when I did not love the small town of Whitefield, Maine.

I wish my path to faith in Jesus had begun much younger in life, but I did not come to believe until I was nearly 28 years old. I was an alcoholic and prescription drug addict with a struggling marriage and financial situation. Only a few weeks after a drug overdose, I attended a free carnival put on by Kennebec Community Church of Augusta. My wife demanded that I give this church a try and to appease her I did.

It was in that church that I first discovered God's love for me and the forgiveness and freedom of the Gospel. As soon as the Bible came alive for me I began studying it in all my free time. Someone who hated to read developed a love of theology and church history. After coming to faith, I dedicated my life to spreading the gospel message and serving the greater community to let them know that God loves them with no strings attached.

In 2008, Ryan Chase, a lifelong friend and resident of Whitefield, passed away at the age of 30. The day he was buried I caught a flight to a church planting conference in Orlando. It was then that I felt God calling me to start a church in my hometown. To serve the people I grew up with. In January of 2010, SVCC was planted in the old church building in Kings Mills.

Today I am blessed along with my wonderfully supportive wife Carrie and three great kids Emma, Logan, and Ava to be a part of both a great, small town and a close, faith family.

In His Service,

Les Dancer
